Hablar de Reverend Bizarre es hablar de una parte importantísima del doom tradicional. Al escucharlos se te viene a la mente bandas como Saint Vitus, Witchfinder General y por supuesto Black Sabbath.

Formados el año 94 en la ciudad de Lohja,Finlandia, por Sami Hynninen, vocalista y bajista, también conocido como “Albert Witchfinder” , (Kimi Kaïrki, Guitarrista y segundas voces, “Father Peter” y Juippi, baterista. Comenzaron a ensayar y hacer lo que sabían hacer, evangelizar a las mentes puritanas con el verdadero doom. Pero esto fue interrumpido ya que los tres tuvieron que ir al servicio militar y dejar la banda de lado, poco después Juippi comenzó a tener problemas con estupefacientes, lo que perjudico notoriamente su manera de tocar.

Ya en el año 96 bajo “The Holy Parish Of Doom”, disquera que es de su propiedad, sacaron su primer demo “Practice Sessions”. En el año 98, luego de que karki y Sami se trasladaran de ciudad y tuvieron que dejar a Juippi, conocieron a Jari Pohjonen, baterista, “Monsieur Earl of Void”, quien había salido poco antes de prisión. Es ahí en el año 99 cuando se forma la trilogía del doom, y graban su segundo demo “Thulsa Doom”; Con este demo se hacen conocidos como los pastores oficiales del doom tradicional de la vieja escuela, y como no, si entre sus manos tenían ingredientes irresistibles para los amantes de las melodías psycho-doomeras.

En el año 2002 sacan su primer disco “In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend”, con este disco se hacen aún mas populares dentro de los riff oscuros, y como no si con, “doomsower” entre sus manos se deja en evidencia la crudeza de su sonido, con letras impactantes y un sonido que pareciera que esta extraído directamente de los suburbios del infierno, reverend se fue transformando en una banda de culto para cualquier doomer. Luego comienzan a salir los demos como “ You Shall Suffer” (03) y los splits que a ellos tanto les agradan, bandas como “Minotauri”, “Orodruin”, y por supuesto los grandiosos “Electric “Wizard” son algunas de las bandas con las cuales han realizado sus discos compartidos.

Y es así en el año 2005, sacan el EP, “II: Crush the Insects”, el cual contiene uno de los himnos del doom “Doom Over The Wolrd”, un tema que representan lo que ellos quieren hacer, redimir las almas eclesiásticas y extasiarlas del más puro doom. Finalmente sacan en el 2007 “So Long Sucker”, y luego se separan, donde lo enfatizan en su pagina oficial “ Doom is Death”, sin embargo, continúan grabando splits con otras bandas de los cuales sale el antes mencionado con Electric Wizard, donde ejecutan el cover a la banda Black metal finlandesa Beherit, “The Gate of Nanna” en donde el afamado coro “ave satan, ava lucifer” hace recordar de que el crudo sonido oscuro sigue viviendo a pesar de su separación.

El sonido de este trío finlandés matiza muchos contenidos, escalas realmente bajas, si tuviese que realizar comparaciones con otras bandas, diría que es la mezcla perfecta entre el NWOBHM de “Witchfinder general” con ese toque proto domer de Pentagram, la chispa psicodélica de “Blue Cheer” y ese escalofrío que te produce el bajo y los tonos graves de “St. Vitus”.

Sus letras muchas anti-cristianas apuntan al ser humano como entes manejadas por un “Mesías salvador” que vendrá a buscar sus pequeñas e ilusas almas; Apadrinados por el ocultismo, y lo dejan bien en claro, ya que muchos temas nombran explícitamente su culto a “Therion”, un ejemplo claro es “Cromwell” (Crush The Insects”) y por su puesto el gran “Aleister” (Return To The Rectory”, y como no hacerlo, si de eso se trata la música de reverend, de hacer su voluntad, al ritmo de melodías que viajan por tus oídos en forma de ondas con una frecuencia clara y concisa hacerte sentir que el verdadero doom aún vive, ese doom que se da vueltas en tus entrañas y se queda en tus pulmones haciéndote respirar esas melodías para luego ir directamente a tu mente y recordarte que el mundo esta bajo el doom, que estamos en la rectoría del reverendo bizarro y que seremos esclavos de Satán y que a pesar de que caigamos se sentirá bien para arder en el infierno en la hora de nuestra muerte.

Gratamente me despido sin antes decir “DOOM, Que se haga tu voluntad!!!”

Rue, es una de aquellas bandas que te induce a machacarte los oídos con misántropa agresividad y devoción. Oriundos de Ohio, gringolandia, Rue combina de manera perfecta legados musicales como Melvins, Atp, Buzzoven, Iron Monkey, Black Flag, Celtic Frost, sonando a un punkoso y oscuro doom metal enlodado de guitarras fuzzeras. Rue tiene ese dinamismo rocanrolero que otras bandas sludge carecen, ese dinamismo que hace a una banda de calidad y única. Completamente recomendado para los seguidores de , Bongzilla, Rwake, Zoroaster, Eyehategod, Mushroomhead, Yob, -16-, Alabama Thunderpussy, Meatjack, High on Fire, Unsane, Crowbar, por decirles algunas.
